Dressing For All Body Types

No two people are the same, and we all have varying sizes and shapes when it comes to our bodies. This is why it can be difficult to look as good in that little dress as your best friend does. However, identifying your body type and learning about what suits you best will empower you to purchase the right clothing and dress to impress day after day!

The classic sign of a pear-shaped body is if your bottom half (your hips and buttocks) are wider than your upper half (your shoulders.) Most pear-shaped bodies will have a small waist, which is beautiful when defined and emphasized. If you have a pear-shaped body type, you will do well by enhancing your upper body to balance you out. This means wearing the square, cowl and boat-necked tops, beautiful prints and high-waisted pencil skirts. Avoid wearing prints and heavy-pocketed skirts and pants that will only further emphasize the size of your hips. Emphasize your shoulders and balance your shape out by wearing ruffled tops and smart blazers with shoulder pads. The trick with a pear-shaped body is to draw the eye upwards.

This body type is generally ‘straight up and down’ with an equal hip to shoulder ratio while being slender and willowy. Although you are not the curviest of body types, you can create the curves using your fashion! Some garment tips for athletic body types are to wear sweetheart and corset-type tops to create a silhouette, long jackets and plenty of layers to add dimension to your shape. You are free to experiment with new ruffles and prints on your lower half which will create the illusion of a wider set of hips. The trick with a rectangular-shaped body is to draw the attention to your waist.

If you are apple-shaped, you may find that you have the weight that accumulates around your hips, shoulders, and waist. This body type is also known as the circular shape and is characterized by a short torso. Emphasize your beautiful legs with shorter skirts that are balanced out with V-neck tops that create the illusion of a longer torso. Boot-cut and flared jeans will help you create a more even and streamlined figure, as will monochromatic clothing.

Armed with the knowledge of your body shape, you will now be able to dress in a more flattering manner. Another way to always look polished is to adhere to the right laundry care tips and only to use the best stain remover on your garments to keep them in the best possible condition for as long as possible.
